Hotpoint Washing Machine Error Codes

Glotech are a leading name when it comes to domestic appliance repairs and new appliances. This means we have direct accounts with major manufacturers and have access to information other providers don’t, including details about what each of the error codes mean.

Error codes on Hotpoint washing machines with digital displays are broadcast with a fault code starting with F0, as well as with flashing lights. We’ll use the error codes to identify common problems, but if you need to know what flashing lights on your Hotpoint washing machine mean, just get in touch with us.

Below are a list of the most common error codes that will appear on the digital display of your Hotpoint washing machines, along with the fault type and a description of what’s gone wrong:

Error CodesFault TypeFault DescriptionAdvice
F01 Circuit board faultThis usually happens when you cannot select one or more functionsUnplug the washing machine from the mains for at least 2 minutes before reconnecting and trying again
F02Motor faultA good indicator of a motor fault would be if the drum is not rotating during a washing cycleBook a washing machine repair engineer
F03 Temperature sensor faultA temperature sensor fault could be due to the heating element not coming onBook a washing machine repair engineer
F04 Blockage or pump issueIn most cases of a blockage or pump problem, the door will not open or, if it can be opened, you’ll see some water inside the drumWe would recommend you check the hoses and filters for any signs of blockage. If you clear a blockage and the problem persists, book a washing machine repair engineer
F06Door lock problemIf the door won’t open it could be a problem with the door lock mechanism. When the door is closed, the machine will not start a cycleCheck for obstructions in the door locking mechanism. If you can’t find one, book a washing machine repair engineer
F07Circuit board and/or heating element faultA common sign of this would be the machine stopping mid way through its cycle, not heating the water, and the pump sometimes running continuouslyBook a washing machine repair engineer
F08 Heating element faultA common sign of this would be the machine stopping mid way through its cycle, not heating the water, and the pump sometimes running continuouslyBook a washing machine repair engineer
F09 Software error Usually indicated by multiple flashing lights on the washing machine. You’ll also find you won’t be able to get the machine to start a cycle on any programmeBook a washing machine repair engineer
F11Pump faultSigns include water remaining in the machine and/or not pumping outBook a washing machine repair engineer
F12Control errorThe machine will not turn on if you have a control error faultBook a washing machine repair engineer
F13Temperature sensor fault (for washer dryers only)Your Hotpoint washing machine and dryer won’t dry clothes properly or at all if it has a temperature sensor faultBook a washing machine repair engineer
F15Heater fault (for both washing machines and washer dryers)A heater fault for washing machines and washer dryers indicates that the machine isn’t heating or drying clothesBook a washing machine repair engineer
F16Drum lock sensor faultThis error code means that the sensor controlling the position the drum stops in is not operating properlyBook a washing machine repair engineer
F18Data error (internal)The display and/or functions may not work properly. We suggest turning your machine off at the sockets for a few minutes, waiting a couple of minutes, and then reconnecting itUnplug the washinng machine from the mains for at least 2 minutes. Then reconnect and try again. If the fault remains, book a washing machine repair engineer
F19Fan motor or heating element error (for washer dryer only)Machine will not dry properly or at allBook a washing machine repair engineer

If your machine is displaying any of the above errors and you can’t get to the root of the problem by yourself, call Glotech today to book a washing machine repair engineer on 0800 0546 326 (Available Mon-Sat, 8.30am to 5.30pm).

Hotpoint error codes are subject to change at any time, so the advice here might not be relevant to your specific machine. Also remember that, if you decide to inspect or repair your machine yourself, you must always unplug it from the mains and exercise caution.

The error codes are an indication of what the machine thinks is wrong, there can be multiple causes like if a wire has a break in it.
Please give the model number, symptoms of the problem and exact error code and I will have a think.

Had error code F09 on Hotpoint dryer. Kept cutting off and tripping electric. Managed to clean fan with a backscratcher. Pulled tons of fluff, hair etc from fan(sealed unit beside condenser) works great now. Need to find ultra thin, long hoover nozzle to clean properly. Saved a few pounds with easy fix. Hotpoint model tcd980

This is quite a common fault with washer dryers or condenser dryers. Nice idea to use a back scratcher. Often parts of the condensing unit are hard to get to and it is easy to leave some of the fluff behind which can then cause a re-occurrence of the same fault again. The lack of air flow causes the heaters to overheat and the overheat stat to cut out. Some times the whole condensing unit will need to be replaced if the fluff can’t be cleaned out or perhaps heater or thermostats.

Hotpoint BHWMD732 7KG
Error Code F18
How to fix or reset please?

MGlotech
Friday, April 12, 2019 at 12:27 pm

F18 on that model is a PCB Module fault so the PCB will probably need replacing.
Unfortunately this is not something that you can do yourself as it will need programming after fitting and engineers need special equipment to do this.

There is always the risk that you fit a new module and it doesn’t fix the fault, fault codes are an indicator rather than a definite answer. The modules are quite expensive so there is a bigger risk than with other parts.

Washing machines won’t open if they still think there is water inside. If there is water inside you can try to drain it out by disconnecting the drain hose and lower it to the floor. Unless there is a blockage the water will run out allowing you to open the door.
If there is no water inside the machine there will be a fault with the door lock or the control board (or both)

Hotpoint smart+ error code f12 could you tell me how to fix it thanks

MGlotech
Monday, May 13, 2019 at 9:24 am

The official response to this is that there is a communication issue between the electronics within the product. This fault can be difficult to diagnose and fix and potentially a waste of money as you might need to try parts to see if they can fix the problem with no guarantee that it would work.
In this case it would definitely be best to call out a professional using our booking form.

This should still be under the 5 year parts guarantee but their call out charge is pretty high so make sure you check this first.

My hotpoint washing machine model wmo863p, shows F18 fault it fill with water and it won’t spin, what’s the problem for this machine.

MGlotech
Monday, July 8, 2019 at 7:57 am

If this error doesn’t clear after a reset then the fault will normally be difficult to diagnose. As mentioned in the table the code basically means that the machine knows something has gone wrong but it is unable to work out what it is. In this case the board(s) itself might have a fault but this is an expensive part to guess at and it will need to be programmed by someone who knows what they are doing.

My hot point washing machine has a F05 fault I’ve checked the filter and water comes out so I don’t believe it’s the pump-maybe wrong please can you advise

MGlotech
Friday, July 12, 2019 at 10:07 am

It depends how much water comes out. There is always water in the sump as it can not all be pumped out. I would check that the pump impeller is free and nothing is stuck anywhere. I assume you have cleared out the filter.
Also make sure you can hear the pump running if you put it on a drain and spin cycle. To me it sounds like you have a blockage somewhere or the pump is jammed.

I have F5 appear on my machine . I put on extra spin cycle . Its start spinning then start refilling with water which it shouldnt do Hotpoint ultima wmtima .. its 10 years old and been rebuilt 3 times .. do u think time for new one ?

It might just be blocked somewhere which wouldn’t require parts. It’s up to you whether you feel it is time to get a new machine.

I have a Hotpoint Ultima RPD9467JGGUK the water in the drum is not heating up I have even tried a 90 degree was but still cold the machine shows no fault codes and continues through its cycle to the end I have noticed though the countdown timer jumps down by half after the first ten mins of the wash cycle its as if its given up on heating the water up does this sound like the element has packed up even though no errors show on the display ?

MGlotech

Sounds like the machine thinks it has reached temperature, possible temperature sensor, heater or PCB problem

Hi, i have a hotpoint WMAO863 washing machine. It is saying the door is open although it is shut. Doesnt seem to be a problem with the mechanism at all. Wont start a cycle due to this.
Ive turned it off at the plug and this worked once but now not working? Can i reset anything? Thanks

MGlotech
Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 9:57 am

Why do you think there is not a problem with the mechanism?
This type of fault would usually be either the doolock, mechanical problem with the door (like latch broken) or a problem with the start button.

My hotpoint machine not spining sometimes shows E4

MGlotech
Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 1:26 pm

Sounds like the machine is not pumping out quickly enough, check for blockages or drainage problem. Then check pump.

If it is not that then the machine might think it still has water in it when it hasn’t, check the pressure system

The display on My Hotpoint WD860 is flashing on and off extremely quickly, no error code. Sometimes it does it for a few seconds then stops, then starts again, weird.

Could be something to do with the display board, has it been getting worse or did the fault suddenly appear?

It has just started really. I made a video of it. I thought it might be a dodgy connection, can’t find any problems though

Hi, I have a WDAL 8640P which looks fine when the ‘on’ button is pressed. When selecting a program all the lights are indicating as normal. Once the ‘Start’ button is pressed to start a cycle you can hear the door lock, but then after about 4secs the ‘lock’ light flashes rapidly, the ‘start’ button has a slow flash and there is a beep every few secs. The machine will power done after holing the ‘on/off’ button down.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
