Tumble dryers are an essential part of the family for many households especially here in the UK thanks to our unpredictable weather. Therefore understandably when things go wrong with a tumble dryer it is sorely missed.
We have many of our customers asking us for advise on common faults and repairs for tumble dryers so we thought we’d put together a little article to help.

  • No power going to the tumble dryer
Try plugging the mains into a different socket in your house. You wouldn’t believe how many times we’ve found the fault to be with a socket rather than the appliance!
  • Drum not turning
This could be a number of things including; a faulty drum motor, the drum belt may have snapped or the timer switch may be faulty. You’ll need a qualified domestic appliance repair service engineer to take a look at this.
  • Clothes are not drying at all or enough
This could mean a faulty thermostat but the more common problem could be a faulty tumble dryer heating element. Some people may know how to replace these but for the majority of us it means seeking professional assistance.
  • Clothes dry too much, over heating, or burning
Whilst again it could be a number of different things causing this issue it is quite likely to be a faulty thermostat in your tumble dryer.
  • Smell
Usually the result of blocked filters. As a first port of call we would suggest cleaning this. If you’re unsure how to do this, consult the user manual for your specific model.
  • Loud and noisy
Firstly check to see if there’s anything in the drum that could be knocking around inside whilst the machine is on. If not, it could be the tumble dryer bearings which need changing.
  • Turns on with door open
For safety reasons please turn your appliance off at the wall immediately. This is usually caused by a faulty door switch which would need replacing.

Some domestic appliance problems can be rectified at home but there are times when only a qualified service engineer will do. For those times, call Glotech!
